The idea of the co-composed main theme was to function as a sort of leitmotif for a main character in a game, as well as representing the passage of time, with each of our variations representing a specific season. My variation depicts the season of spring, which I've characterized using lively melodic figures and varying timbres to catch the bouncy sprawling feel of nature coming to life. In contrast to the main theme, I've here structured the melodies in upwards motions, reminiscent of sprouts reaching up from the soil towards the sunlight. Additionally, all four string voices are in parts rather detailed and contrasting against each other to sort of portray individual plants and wildlife, in particular when the first violin and the viola take turns playing the lead melody.
